Age/Solar Spot Removal

Description

Sun spots or age spots, also known as as solar lentigo or senile lentigines are pigmented lesions. Induced by sun damage accumulated over the years, they are well-defined, uniformly colored areas of brown or greyish pigment. They generally show up on the areas of the body that have had greater sun exposure. For example, the back of the hands, the face, neck and chest areas. Some people also develop more crust thickened pigmented areas these are seborrheic keratosis.

HOW IT WORKS:

Prior to any treatment your  skin will be assessed. A management plan for the most appropriate treatment will be advise.

Fotona’s Starwalker is the ideal laser to  effectively removing benign pigmented lesions. Its multi-wavelength, Q-Switched laser system is uniquely able to produce very short pulses of intense light that are selectively absorbed by treatment-specific pigments in a lesion. Due to its versatility it can treat both superficial and deeper lesions enabling it to break apart pigments only and not cells. This means that pigment destruction can take place without ablating the skin making it exceptionally safe

Expected Results

The area treated will initially respond by going purple/red in colour and then go darker brown in colour. The purple/red colour will generally fade within 12 hours but the darker pigment over the area treated can remain for up to 10 days. This will gradually flake away and leave fresher skin with reduced pigmentation behind.

The skin will also be a little dry and require moisturising, sometimes the skin gently peels – again this depends on the treatment regime we decide on with you. You will be advised to use a sunscreen factor 50. If you do not continue to use sunscreen then you are going to expose your skin to the risk of further sun damage.
